The DO Monterrei is situated in the southeast of the provence of Ourense,
very close to the Portuguese border.
It is almost totally surrounded by mountain ranges, although not particularly high
but sufficiently so to protected it from the atlantic climate, as a result this area
is drier than most of Galicia, providing perfect conditions for growing grapes,
with more of a continental influence rather than that of the Atlantic, making it
possible to obtain healthy harvests of predominantly white varieties such as
Treixadura and Godello.
As we climb to heights of more than 800 metres above sea level, cultivation
becomes more difficult, although these conditions are compensated with
excellent quality wines.
The combination of the soil and climatic conditions, together with a wine
growing tradition handed down from generation to generation, has made
it possible to produce a series of wines with a truly inimitable personality
from the indigenous grape varieties, with light yellow or straw-coloured
whites with golden hues, strong on the nose with fresh aromas
and mature fruits.
These are fresh in the palate, fruity and with a slightly acidic tang which
balances out the alcohol content (12- 12.5º) and a slightly bitter end note.
The red wines have an intense blackberry colour, with a touch of violet or
cherry,
powerful aroma with hints of red fruits and berries. In the palate you will appreciate
their acidity and alcohol content (12.5%); they are harmonious and well blended,
fresh and with a flavour of mature red fruits.
